The State of Assam has earlier decided to table legislation in the state assembly in February that will mandate that the land of indigenous people can only be sold to indigenous people.
The State Cabinet had earlier also decided to recommend to the Centre to amend Article 375 of the Constitution and make Assamese the state language permanently. Though the Assamese is the state language now, Bengali and Bodo are also spoken in large sections of the state. The said resolution was taken in the month of December 2019.
The citizens of Assam are awaiting further developments in the matter.
